SCORE was formed in 1964 to offer current or would-be business owners the expertise of experienced businessmen or women. SCORE consists primarily of retired business and professional people, but also includes some still active in a business or profession. Nationwide membership is about 11,500, organized into 389 chapters. As "Counselors to America 's Small Business", our purpose is to strengthen existing small businesses and improve the success prospects for startups. If you are operating a small business or thinking about starting one, we urge you to include SCORE in your list of resources.

The SCORE Association is a resource partner of the U. S. Small Business Administration, which provides part of our support. We are also supported by corporate grants and by member contributions. SCORE members are unpaid, but may be reimbursed for direct expenses. We follow a code of ethics that precludes us from financial gain for ourselves or friends or relatives. We may not accept any form of compensation from clients. In addition to the coverage of the independent chapters in New York City and Rockland County , the Westchester Chapter provides counseling at seven satellite locations (Mahopac, Mt. Kisco, New Rochelle, Ossining, Peekskill, Putnam County,Yonkers, Yorktown ) plus its headquarters in White Plains . On-site counseling at ones place of business is available in certain unusual situations.

Free individual counseling is available to you on a confidential basis for as many sessions as you feel are helpful. Our job is not finished until you decide you no longer need our services. We look for counselors whose experience is the best match for your needs. As often as possible, we assign two counselors to your case.

In addition to counseling, we also provide Wednesday afternoon workshops during which   various aspects of starting and running a business are discussed. These workshops are free and it is not necessary to pre register. A complete description and schedule is available on the workshop page.

TheWestchester, NY Chapter of SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) is part of a national nonprofit association operating under the auspices of the U.S. Small Business Administration and dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth, and success of the nations small business. SCORE volunteers serve as "Counselors to Americas Small Business."
